When you get emergency care, or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, you are protected from surprise billing and balance billing.
Your right to a good faith estimate
If you are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you receive it. You can ask for one at any time, and we will provide it before your appointment.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your good faith estimate, you can dispute it. Keep a copy of your estimate.
What you are protected from
- Being billed more than in-network cost-sharing for emergency care.
- Being balance billed by an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, unless you give written consent in advance.
If you think you have been billed incorrectly
Contact us first, and we will look at it. You can also contact the federal No Surprises Help Desk on 1-800-985-3059, or visit cms.gov/nosurprises.
